OCD Support Group
Dr. Hart and Patty co-lead the Houston OCD Support Group.  This is a free support group for "sufferers" of any OCD spectrum disorder as well as their family members.  Family members may attend without their OCD sufferers.  This group is held from 7-9 pm on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Houston OCD Program, 1401 Castle Court, in the Montrose area
of Houston.

Patty Smith-Hart, RN, PMHNP
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Patty is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who is licensed to diagnose and treat psychiatric and mental health disorders.  She received her Master’s in Nursing from the University of Kansas, specializing as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.  She has experience in the field of psychiatric nursing as well as significant experience in medical-surgical nursing.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Baker University and while there was a charter member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing.  Patty's experience includes work as a psychiatric nurse and advanced practice nurse at Menninger, with experience working with clients in each of the Menninger treatment programs. She completed internships at Menninger in the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Eating Disorder Programs.  Patty has  experience as a DBT skills group leader and DBT individual therapist in a dedicated DBT program. She specializes in working with patients who have depression, anxiety, OCD, generalized anxiety, and borderline personality disorder.  She also provides education for family members.  She has been active in research studies related to evidence-based practice. Patty also holds a Bachelor’s in Education from Emporia State University.

John is a Licensed Professional Counselor, who is also employed by Menninger as a cognitive behavior specialist. He has been affiliated with the Menninger Clinic for over two decades as well as functioning as a private practitioner specializing in anxiety disorders and work-related problems. He was with the Menninger OCD Treatment Program at its inception and presents regionally and nationally on the nature and treatment of obsessive-compulsive related disorders. He has a wide research interest and has published on evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders.  John is currently one of the advisors to the Parents of Adults with OCD, which can be found at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/
